Someone mentioned in the State of the Balcony survey that they would like to write a guest post for Life on the Balcony. I think this is a great idea! Less work for me, and the opportunity to share a larger range of gardening ideas and experiences with Life on the Balcony readers. Win-win.

If you would like to write a guest post, shoot me an email with a 1 or 2 sentence explanation of what you’d like to write about. Life on the Balcony posts are generally between 400-600 words. That’s about 4-6 paragraphs. If you send me a post idea, and I think it is something that would work for LOTB, then I’ll provide you with more guidelines about how to write your post.
Here are some ideas of posts that generally do well on LOTB, or that people have requested:
- Your experience composting on a small patio or balcony, with lessons learned, tips, etc.
- Winter gardening from the perspective of someone in a colder climate than my Zone 10/Sunset 23 Southern California patio.
- How to grow a particular plant in a container. If you go this route, choose plants that have special care requirements. Most people don’t need special tips on how to grow pansies.
- Your favorite combinations of plants for a container garden.
- A container design that features plants that attract birds or butterflies.
- Gardening for pets (birds, rabbits, cats, dogs, etc).
- How to do a specific craft that is garden related.
- Recipes that feature a plant that can be grown in a container.
- Container gardening tips for specific types of locations, like a very shady patio or an extremely windy balcony.
- A frugal gardening idea or tip.
If you write a guest post for Life on the Balcony, I’ll include a short bio or statement, along with a link to your website, if you have one.

i’m in the Uk, zone 8/9 and i’m growing lots of fruits in pots on my patio, – minarette apples, fig, and now a peach, (as well as Strawberries and Blueberries)- let me know if you’ve like me to write about them.
Claire–I would love it if you wrote about growing figs or blueberries. I’ll contact you later today with more details. Thanks for offering!!
Would love to…I’ll shoot you an e-mail.
Glad you liked my suggestion on the survey!
