Haha, that's such a great idea for a blog! I came out here because I just saw a beautiful bird on my balcony, and then it left. I thought that I'd like to keep birds on my balcony and watch them. Thanks.

my cat doesn't prowl around the feeder. She sometimes goes in the balcony. I have kept a bowl of water and above it is a feeder for the sparrows. But I shut the windows to the balcony so that my cat can't go there, even then the sparrows don't come. Is there a way to still attract the sparrows even if I have a cat at home?

Aakanksha--If you have a cat prowling around the bird feeder, that will definitely scare the birds away!

Hello, I too have kept a bird feeder in my balcony for abt a month now but no sparrows seem to be coming! Could this be because of my pet cat? Could the birds know that it is dangerous to feed at my balcony because of the cat?

I didn't realize I was so interested in planting and feeding birds.
I just throw the seeds onto the balcony so they are not too close together and then hide behind the window curtain and enjoy their feeing. But there are 2 pigeons that found the place and they sometimes get there first.

A funny thing: there is one sparrow that sits on the next door balcony opposite my living room window and sings VERY LOUD in the direction of my window. I already 'learned' that this is the cue that I should throw seeds. Something just too cute.

Also, I have a funny looking orange/redish bird that looks like it's having a 'bad hair day' with spikes on its head; it's very very quick, and makes a ticking sound when it alights on the railing. One day I saw it with a baby-bird that looked like the mother. I think this is the female to a darker red bird that scoots around the trees and visits occasionally. It doesn't look the red bird on this page. Do you maybe know the name of my red bird?
