What Barack Obama Would Plant If He Was a Small-Space Gardener

by Fern on August 25, 2008

In honor of the beginning of the Democratic Convention, I thought I would take a moment to imagine what Barack Obama would plant if he had a few containers on a sunny balcony. Here is what I’ve come up with:

First, I think he’d pot up some Silver Lace Vine. According to Beginner Gardening, this is one of the fastest growing vines known to man. I figure someone who has skyrocketed to political superstardom would want to plant a vine that can keep up with his meteoric rise.

Second, because Obama has campaigned on mortgage lending reform, I thought he would like to plant a Mortgage Lifter tomato plant.

Finally, as a devoted peacenik, I think Obama would plant a Love and Peace Rose.

So…What do you think Obama would plant? Keep it nice! Funny is okay. Just remember that this is a gardening blog not a heated political forum.

When the Republican Convention begins, I’ll post about what I imagine John McCain would plant. Any suggestions?

For McCain, how about ‘old vine zinfandel’?

LOL Mom!

Hum… let’s see here. He would definitely grow some Roses for Michelle. There will be moments when he will have to appease her and doesn’t have time to hit up a florist. Hot peppers, for Obama seems like the kind of chap who can take the heat. Tomatoes and basil too, to whip up some marinara on the fly.

Btw Fern, your garden blog ROCKS! Beautiful design without any clutter.

Mondo — I like the idea of thinking ahead and growing roses just in case he doesn’t have time to make it to the florist.

Thanks for your compliment on the blog design. I tweaked the Silhouette theme by Brian Gardner.

Actually, I think Fern ROCKS! Her blog is pretty cool, too.

Thanks Mom!

I’m not sure about the roses. If he wins, won’t he already get a whole rose garden? A full time gardener or two to boot I would guess as well.

Richard — We were answering a hypothical question about Obama and what he would plant if he were a small space gardener (to keep it with the theme of the blog). I am sure both Obama and McCain already have gardeners and large yards in which to plant whatever they want. :-)

I know, it was just a joke. Maybe a pot with a stalk of corn or a soybean plant as a symbolic gesture for biofuels. :-)

Barack Obama is a good president. he is perhaps the most tech savvy president in the US.
