The Upside of a Garden Casualty

by Fern on August 20, 2008

When you grow edibles, and one succumbs to an early death, you can eat it! I came home to find one of my baby Ruby Chard plants flopped over. Something broke its stem. I rinsed it off and had one delicious bite of ruby chard.

The guy I ate was a little bigger than he was here in this photo. His first pair of real leaves had developed more and he was working on a second set.

Sionara little Ruby Chard. You were good!

I like the way you think!

Jen–Maybe I should have given him a better eulogy? Like, his leaves were buttery and soft? Or is it too morbid to eulogize something by talking about how they tasted?! ;-)

P. Price–Thanks!
