- Better Homes and Gardens’ Plant Finder - A good place to find general and plant care information.
- Dave’s Garden - An extensive, community driven database of plants and care information.
- Floridata - An encyclopedia of plants and articles about their care.
- Fancy Fronds - A nursery specializing in Ferns that has an exhaustive Fern database.
Seeds
- Botanical Interests - Lots of heirloom varieties of vegetables and unusual herbs and flowers. The packets have nice illustrations of the plant and TONS of information about planting and care.
- Territorial Seed Company - A really exhaustive list of plant seeds. Where else are you going to find four different varieties of Edamame seed?
- Renee’s Garden - An interesting selection of flowers, herbs, and vegetables that often contain unusual or hard to find varieties. The packets have charming watercolor images and useful tips and information.
- Seeds of Change - A large selection of organic seeds. They also have a good selection of organic seedlings. Even if you are not in the mood for buying seeds, still check them out, as they have loaded their site with TONS of info on organic and sustainable gardening.
Container Gardening
- Healthy Houseplants - A comprehensive website covering everything you need to know about caring for plants indoors.
- Garden Guides - A long list of container gardening projects, complete with detailed instructions.
- Texas A&M Extension - Good overview of how to grow vegetables in containers as well as a handy table to help you diagnose any problems your plants might have.
- North Carolina State Extension - A useful list of vegetable varieties that are well suited to container gardening.

Birds, Bees, Bugs and Butterflies
- eBird - Report the birds you observe to Cornell University’s bird database and read through tons of interesting and informative about birds.
- What Bird - A great bird identification website that walks you through the process of figuring out which bird you saw in your garden.
- Discover Life - A butterfly identification tool created by the University of Georgia that helps you figure out which butterfly you saw by asking you a series of questions about the butterfly’s shape, coloring, location, etc. Use this link if you’re trying to identify a caterpillar.
