Post image for New Trend? Metal Animal Sculpture

At the San Francisco Garden Show, the best of show display garden featured oversized metal animal sculptures meandering through “prairies” of tall, wispy grass. It was quite stunning in its simplicity. And then the other day I saw this at a local gardening accessories shop…

What do you think? I wonder what the HOA would say if I put this out on my balcony…

okay, so I have a confession…
A few years back I bought a plant stand in the shape of a flamingo. I love it! Mostly because it is made out of recycled golf clubs and a metal shopping basket. http://twitpic.com/1frhyg This is it last year holding a begonia; this year it is home to a huge cymbidium.

We are all about the metal sculptures in the garden…love love love them. Well, unless you are the president of the HOA…I think they will not enjoy it…but it would be fun to go to that meeting. Matti

This is in no way a NEW trend! But I love it. My mom has a few rusty metal animals out in her backyard — my favorite is the moose. They are so beautiful, especially as they age. It’s fun to see them in your great blog!

There are a lot of metal dinosaurs in my area of the Central Coast. One property back in the hills has all kinds of them possed among the rolling hills and oak trees. It is really neat to see! I only have one small plant stand in the shape of a cat!

Matti–In all fairness to the HOA, they don’t seem too militant about enforcing the rules that are already on the books regarding balconies, and there is nothing in there about what kind of sculpture you can have….

Paige–Fair enough. Nothing is new under the sun. I would love to see your mom’s moose, that sounds awesome!

Erin–Now *that* is cool! I would love to have a brontosaurus.

Metal sculptures can look nice in the garden as long as it is not overdone.

this reminded me… at the seattle flower & garden show, there were these crows all over the place. since i saw them, i have been noticing them all over my town, too… the most hip of the garden sculpture, the metal crow!

I really fell in love with the picture of the metal giraffe sculpture and I don’t think my garden will ever be complete without him. Can you please tell me where in the world I could purchase this great piece?

Laura–It was at a shop in Los Alamitos, CA called “Garden Daze.”
