I think gardening should be an approved treatment for depression. In the past week, I have had to have not one, but TWO cars towed when they died while I was driving them. One battery, an alternator and two new idle thingamjigs later, both cars seem to be doing okay. Between the car issues, stressful stuff at work, and a rude guy at lunch today, I was starting to feel like I had some really bad karma hanging over my head.
That is, until I came home and saw this.
I have been waiting for this iris to bloom for nearly a year. There are not many flowers I can say this about, but it was truly worth the wait. In person, the only way to describe the flower is breathtaking. After an hour of photographing the iris from pretty much every angle imaginable, the cloud that seemed like it had been following me simply disappeared.

That’s a might fine Iris indeed. But I have to ask, are you sure you know how to drive a car correctly?

Shawn–I was beginning to wonder myself! But the mechanic assured me that I didn’t do anything to cause either breakdown, the problems were normal wear and tear on older cars.
Todd–It’s a variety of Iris called ‘Best Bet.’ You should be able to find bulbs pretty easily, I don’t think it’s a super rare variety.

The iris is so beautiful and obviously worth the wait. As for gardening being a cure for depression, I absolutely agree. There’s nothing like being around plants to make you get in the moment and forget your problems.
