Hello…Hola…Ni Hao…Bonjour…Aloha…Szervusz

by Fern on July 6, 2008

Woo hoo! I can say hello in six languages. I feel like a McDonald’s cup (remember those cups with “loving it” in a whole bunch of languages?).

No you haven’t come across a blog about languages nor one about McDonald’s paper cups. You’ve come across a blog about a topic more universal than any one language, and probably less universal than ubiquitous fast food containers. It seems that no matter how high tech humanity becomes, how busy we get, we still love living amongst plants and are mesmerized by the animals and insects attracted to those plants. Unfortunately, many (most?) of us are not lucky enough to live in a house in the middle of acres of property filled with beautiful gardens and forests.

This blog is for people who want their cake and want to eat it too. That is, this is a blog for people who want (or need) to live in an urban or suburban area and thus only have a small outdoor area to call their own. Yet these same people want to enjoy the great outdoors, if only on their not-so-great balcony. The nerve!

Anyway, I hope to share my ideas for gardening in small spaces and otherwise enjoying spending time in said small spaces. Hopefully you will pop in from time to time and share your ideas too. Then we can lean across our respective balcony railings, hold hands, and sing some sort of urban gardening kumbaya.

Who the heck is writing this blog, you ask? Check out the About page for more info about me…Fern (yes, that’s my real name!).

Hi Fern!
I followed a comment you left on Daily Blog Tips back to your blog and I have to tell you that I’m impressed. What an original idea for a blog! It looks and reads great. I also love the idea of the “Upcoming Posts” section. Fantastic way to draw readers in.

Best of luck and continued success with Life on the Balcony! :)
