I went to check out the Fullerton Arboretum’s Cactus and Succulent Sale this weekend. Arboretums and botanical gardens are great alternative places to find interesting plants at reasonable prices. At this particular sale, there was an assortment of people selling pups and cuttings from their plants. They were all really friendly and knowledgeable. It was a lot of fun!

Love the photos and composition! What camera do you use?
I love how some succulents have an almost alien geometry look to them. So cool. It looks like it was a fun sale. And as usual, your pictures are awesome
Great photos. Everything looks so tempting. What did you take home with you?
Louise–Thanks! Ihave a Canon Xti
Shawn–Yeah, there are some pretty weird looking succulents!
Kat–I ended up not buying anything. There were some things that looked cool, but I didn’t love them so much that I was willing to schlep them home, then move them. Maybe after the move I’ll see if I have room for more plants.
Fern, Your new blog design looks great. Nice pictures too. The plant in the bottom left looked intriguing. At first, I thought the little yellow things were bugs!!! Weird plant.
Roberta/Mom–They are bugs! Aphids to be precise.
Maybe I should look for some local sales like this. I’ve been thinking about succulents more lately. I used to think they were boring and *not pretty* but now that I’ve been seeing them in mixed arrangements and more types available the idea has been growing on me…
I love Fullerton Arboretum’s sales. I purchased a Platycerium Bifurcatum for $5.00 at their Green Scene sale!
Do you bring these in for the winter or are they OK outside? Succulents seem like such “summery” plants, I’m always afraid to leave any outdoors besides hens and chicks and sedum.
