Post image for Exciting News! I’m Writing a Book!

I just signed a contract with Timber Press to publish my book about apartment gardening! As you can imagine, I am SUPER excited about this opportunity. The book will be a guide to planning, potting, and growing a garden on a balcony or patio. There will be a few opportunities for LOTB readers to have their gardens featured in the book and I’m sure that I’ll need your feedback on some things, so stay tuned for more details!

WOW – I’m so happy for you. It’s a challenge writing a book (I’ve so been there), but also a positive experience – I’ll be rooting you on!!

If you ever need an extra eye, let me know – I’m glad to help.

Congratulations! I am new to your blog and am really enjoying great info, creative ideas and the humor too! I am sure all of us will have plenty of suggestions for you! Hope to see “real” balcony and container gardening and not the usual featured in magazines involving celeb designers and their clients and pricey, precious containers.
Creativity is at every price point-as you know!

CONGRATULATIONS! You so very much deserve it! You are such a fantastic writer that I bet you won’t give your editor very much to work on changing. I also hope any pictures will feature your real garden and not some fixed-up fantasy one.

I am so happy for you! Fern

I can’t wait. I hear that you have some innovative things to say about black plants. Good thing nobody has discussed them before :P

Congratulations Fern. This is a long time coming and I’ll be first in line to pick up a copy.

Excellant! I just started window-sill gardening this year, and it’s been a chore trying to figure out what works and what doesn’t. I’ve been to the bookstore a dozen times searching for books that would help, but everything is about outdoor gardening. This is just what I’ve been looking for!

In the words of every backseat child on a trip – are you done yet? are you done yet?? (ps – please don’t turn this car around…)

Oh, fantastic! That is great news. Congrats! Congrats! Congrats! I started my blog a few months ago and have been working on hints for balcony gardening specifically because I couldn’t find good info in any book and then I found your blog, which is so helpful! Be sure to include a part about keeping water off your neighbor’s head!

Hi Fern. I am very happy for you… I had the privilege to be your client about 1 year ago and until today I get compliments from every single person that comes to my Pilates Studio here in Lakewood, about the beautiful pots you put together for me…
The quality of your work, your dedication and the love and passion you put in, makes a difference… I wish you the best from the bottom of my heart… and please let me know when your book come out of the oven :-)
With love, Katia

Congratulations on the book project! This will be so helpful for so many people. While I love to fantasize about the huge, rambling gardens I see online and in the “real” world, many of us just don’t have that kind of space. Your site is inspiring – and I am sure your book will be amazing too. It would be great if you could share some of your wisdom on our new site YourGardenShow.com too. I know our members would love to hear from you and see your great photos. Thanks for what you are doing!

Congratulations on the book deal! I have to say your topic is great and a very underserved area on the bookstore shelves. The last two years I went online to find balcony gardening ideas for a high rise and there was virtually nothing.

I had actually given up looking, so to happen across your site was a treat.

All the best,

Carolyn
