Everyday at around 3 in the afternoon I wish I could crawl under my desk and take a nap. Maybe I lived in a Latin country in a previous life, because siestas sound fantastic to me! It may sound a bit crazy to think about napping out on your balcony or patio now–though Southern California has been having intermittent warm weather–in a few months you’ll be thanking me for putting this idea into your head.
Sunset Magazine recently published a list of ways to nap outdoors, here are my favorites:
I wonder what the HOA at my condo community would say about sleeping on balconies….

I am a fan of hammocks. Perfect for sleeping, sway gently in a breeze (or even a fairly brisk wind), you can hang them over your low lying pots, and even remove them when your nap is done (keeping the cat hair at a minimum, should you share your hammock with a cat, as I do).
Great idea Fern, I’m all for an afternoon nap and these ideas look fabulous!
Ever since I saw that Sunset article, I’ve wanted a couch/futon for napping on my patio. I could do it, but I’d have to give up some space for plants.
I’m a huge fan of napping outside. I love these ideas!
Shari–That sounds like a great idea. Especially for plants that appreciate a little shade during the height of the day.
Kimberly–Yeah, that’s always the problem in a small space, everything is a trade off.
Melanie & Barbara–Thanks!
