Container Gardening Basics

This week I realized that the cheap potting soil I bought for my pots at my office was probably the reason my potato and dahlias were doing so poorly. It reminded me that you can’t ignore the basics.

  1. Failing to plan is planning to fail – Some things to think about before getting started
  2. What to look for in good quality potting soil – The intro to this post cracked me up. Remember when lipstick, pitbulls and vice presidential candidates were all over the news?
  3. Selecting the right pot – There’s so much to consider, material, shape, color, size…

What other container gardening basics do you think are important for beginning gardeners? Or those of us who don’t follow our own advice? ;-)

The Perfect Drink for a Lazy Afternoon on the Balcony?

I am thinking it might be a Cuba Libre. What do you guys like to drink on warm afternoons?

Cuba Libre

  • 2 oz light rum
  • juice of 1/2 limes
  • Cola

Pour lime juice into a highball glass over ice cubes. Add rum, fill with cola, stir, and serve.
