A Little Of This, A Little Of That 8/29

Creative Container Garden Ideas:

  • Chalkboard Pots – I especially love the pot with the scalloped chalkboard. Super cute ideas from We Heart This.
  • Tomatoes in Containers – Kerry shares a video she made about growing tomatoes in containers.
  • Braided Avocado Trees – Sue shares her idea for creating an avocado tree with a braided trunk. I don’t recommend growing avocados from seed if you want fruit (could take decades, and the fruit may not taste like that of the parent tree), but if you’re looking for a fun, cheap project, with what will surely be beautiful results, why not?!
  • Five Ways to a Beautiful Balcony – Great collection of photos and advice

Post image for Container Gardening Grab Bag 5/14

This really is the best time of year for garden blogging, the great posts continue this week. I could also use your wildlife gardening posts for the May carnival, and you definitely want to see the bouquet Mary grew herself. Pretty cool!

Follow Up to First Vlog Post

November 3, 2009

In the vlog review of the soil scoop, I mentioned that I was yanking out a silver South African Geranium and replacing it with a black Sweet Potato Vine (I think it’s ‘Blackie’ but I’ve misplaced the tag), but I forgot to include a shot with the finished pot. I really love how this container [...]

May 17, 2009

Normally, Garden Bloggers Bloom Day comes on the 15th of the month, and all the various garden bloggers post photos of what is blooming in their gardens. It is flower porn at its best. But I always forget about it until I check my feed reader and see that all my favorite garden blogs have [...]

April 7, 2009

Over the past two weeks, I’ve really enjoyed looking at all of your balconies and patios in the new Life on the Balcony Flickr group. There are already 71 photos in the pool! Thanks for participating, I would have felt kind of silly if I was the only person adding photos to the group. Anyway, [...]

Over the last nine months, several of you have emailed me with photos of your container garden. It’s such a wonderful surprise to find potted gardens in my inbox!
