I love your taste in plants Shari. Lots of my favorites on your list. Although I can't grow tulips here in Southern California, I'm not willing to let them live in my fridge the amount of time I would have to keep them in there.

I never thought to put blue, pink, and yellow in the same container before. Normally I try and stick plants of the same color in the same container, or just stick with veggies as i'm new to the gardening scene.

I may have to try that once I get my garden up and running at my new place.

My winter color comes from cyclamen, violas, icelandic poppies, grape hyacinths [muscari], mini-daffodils, jonquils, species tulips, succulents, and xygocactus. The last two do not play well with the others and have their own pots but I group them together. Since I live in the San Francisco area I can stagger the planting times of bulbs over a three month period and get blooms from late December onward.

My Scilla siberica flowers are never upright like the ones in the photo, mine bend over like blubells. I suppose you grow these on your balcony, outside all winter. Do they come back the following year? The Primulas and the Scilla are the only ones that are hardy and come back every year, where I live and they bloom in April or May not in the winter. I do like iris but it has to be replanted every fall. Cyclamen is strictly an indoor plant.

Beautiful container combos! My winter combos tend to be greens for the holiday season....they stay looking nice because they are frozen solid. Thanks for the images that remind me winter won't last forever.

We've never had a winter garden before. We just let all the usual plants die off or have their dormant period...well, before I started doing the major care for it....mahahahaha. I've been getting Allysum and lobelias ready to set out and fill in those empty places so far this year. Not planning anything major since we're completely remodeling the yard in January.

The Iris George and Cyclamen look good though...I think there shall be a trip to the nursery this weekend...
